SEE SCOTLAND DIFFERENTLY

At McKinlay Kidd, we’re passionate about Scotland and have been exploring it all our lives.

The reason we know where to find quiet, unspoilt beaches, hotels with a truly personal touch and restaurants where you can savour truly memorable food is simple: we care about seeking them out. Every single recommendation is based on personal experience. Our golden rule is simple: we wouldn’t send you somewhere we haven’t been ourselves.

Following is a sample itinerary for a self-drive tour of the distilleries of Islay.  For more information, or to talk to us about creating a taylor-made tour to fit your needs, CLICK HERE

ISLAY WHISKY BREAK

A true Scottish whisky is as individual as the environment that produces it and Islay (pronounced ‘eye-la'), the southernmost island of the Inner Scottish Hebrides, is unique. Heather-clad hills are dotted with numerous historical reminders of days gone by and the island's impressive 130 miles of coastline offers quiet sandy beaches, deserted bays and stunning Atlantic views.

More importantly Islay is amongst the best places in the world for producing the ‘water of life'; combining experience born of hundreds of years of whisky production with the essential peaty character of the Islay soil.

There are currently eight working distilleries on Islay, and Scottish experts McKinlay Kidd have put together a short break which includes visits to two of them. If you have a favourite let them know, otherwise they are happy to offer recommendations, having personally visited - and sampled - them all.

McKinlay Kidd specialise in tailor-made self-drive holidays and have sampled everything they recommend, which puts them in a great position to organise trips that really make the most of a holiday in Scotland and its islands.

The Islay Whisky Short Break can be arranged from February to November and costs from £279 per person (at current exchange rates around 450US$). This includes 3 nights bed & breakfast in a luxurious small hotel charmingly converted from a stately Victorian pile perched on the edge of a Loch. The holiday also includes tours of 2 distilleries on Islay, return ferry travel, a map of Scotland and a personalised itinerary with recommended routes and suggestions on places to see and visit depending on guests' interests. All holidays can be tailor-made to suit individual requirements, for example by including accommodation in Glasgow or Edinburgh at the beginning or end. We can also arrange car rental for your time in Scotland.
