David Radcliffe
Disdain for a certain bird inspires hunting

Having David Radcliffe on our community leadership board is like having Warren Beatty involved with your dating site. Both men have global reputations as passionate collectors and consumers of the widest variety of “trophy spirits” from all corners of the world.

In his case David encountered his first spirit when, as a youngster, he decided to liberate a bit of blended whisky tucked away in his Grandma's house. As he lifted the glass, swiftly bypassing the nose (and for that matter the lips and front of his mouth), he quickly became acquainted with the sensation of high-proof alcohol impacting his throat with ferocity. He spat it out and has been unable to even whiff the brand since. (He wont share which brand other than to say it is a favourite pour both at Buckingham Palace and around Scotland)

As he grew older, Mr. Radcliffe found there to be a direct correlation between the number of hours he was spending drinking stout in pubs, and the size of his waistband. So it was with his health and well-being in mind that he began to sample and ultimately switch to drinking the standard Bourbons, Scotch and Irish pub malts. The 1980’s were when it all began for him.

With the 90's came a career working in the wine & spirits trade in England, and the opportunity to expand his knowledge by concentrating on Irish Whiskeys. As a result he spent lots of time in Ireland visiting family, friends and distilleries (not necessarily in that order).

By the mid-90’s business was booming and David’s now expertise in the world of whisky was renown and much in demand. He established a very successful whisky consultancy and wholesale business, providing consulting services to the top whisky retailers in the UK and Europe, and distilleries in Ireland and Scotland.

In 2006 he joined the senior management team of one of the world's foremost whisky retailers and launched his highly regarded blog the Potstill Whisky Blog to provide tasting notes without using the “fancy language” so often found in the reviews of old-school whisky aficionados, which often intimidate and alienate the average person.

We are incredibly grateful to have David Radcliffe as part of the leadership of our community, and absolutely confident the next batch out of the barrel will be spectacular with David minding the potstill. We urge you to check out his blog, and join him here in our community for a taste of some of the finest the world of whisky has to offer.
